The Space We Hold
Best Original Interactive Production
Canadian Screen Awards
The result of our collaboration with the National Film Board of Canada and independent producer Cult Leader, The Space We Hold shares the stories of the “Grandmothers”—women who were forced into sexual slavery by the Japanese army during World War II.
The interactive documentary premiered at the 2017 Sheffield Documentary Festival in the UK, and was nominated for a 2018 Canadian Screen Award for “Best Original Interactive Production”.
Built from the ground up using WebGL, the experience intermixes full-screen video, scrolling content, user input and data visualization to share the Grandmothers’ tragic stories and reflect back to us our collective reaction.
